The year so far .
Following this first event of the year, we held our annual members' evening at a local hostelry. In February some of us provided assistance to the South West Hertfordshire Group at the Watford Half Marathon, which was held in very cold conditions with occasional sleet and snow, but despite the challenging conditions, was uneventful. February is also the month in which we hold our AGM. Once again, none of the existing committee were able to escape re-election!
March was as usual comparatively quiet, although we were once again invited to attend and provide a RAYNET display at the Hertfordshire Resilience Conference. We spoke to a number of useful contacts there, and were also able to hear speakers share their professional experiences of dealing with various disaster and emergency situations worldwide.
In April, we provided assistance (for the second year running) for the Mayor of Hertford's Charity 10k Run, this year held in much better running conditions than the cold and snow of 2008. This run raised funds for the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund and has received good reviews from runners as a well-organised, beginner-friendly race, benefiting from so much of it being off road, using the Cole Green Way, and relatively quiet lanes used for most of the remainder of the route. From our point of view, this was a very quiet event.
